How do I resolve "Something went wrong, your comment was not saved" when adding a comment to an alert in Panther?

Issue

When trying to add a comment to an alert in my Panther Console, the following error message occurs: Something went wrong, your comment was not saved. How can I fix this?

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Click on the Gear icon in the upper right side of your Panther Console and select Users.
  2. Locate your user and keep a note of the role that is assigned to you.
  3. Click on the Gear icon again and select User Roles.
  4. Locate the role that corresponds to your assigned role.
  5. Ensure that this role contains the following permissions:
    • Manage Alerts, as this permission is needed to be able to add comments.
    • View Users, as this permission will allow access to user information related to your Panther resources.

Cause

This issue can occur when the user role doesn't have the necessary permissions that will allow them to add comments to an alert.
